The Associated Students of Colorado State University (ASCSU), the student-led government at CSU represents over 30,000 students, both undergraduates and graduates. ASCSU helps create a better experience for students on campus and in the community by supporting student services, organizations, and rights. Following my work with the incoming administration, I was called upon to design the new ASCSU, a more extensive design system and one that needed to be built to last for the entirety of the administration. With a compressed timeline, I sought to create an online home reflective of “the Student's Organization,” one grounded in inclusivity, accessibility, performance, and security. I prioritized WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility and other a11y standards, as well as toggle functions for dark mode and enlarging text. I partnered with analysts who are blind and visually impaired, technical specialists, and with translators who ensured every piece of content was thoughtfully translated into Spanish. The backend of TaylorSchindler.com is WordPress under the hood, with a highly customized Gutenberg editing experience that is built on a flexible, user-centric publishing framework designed to adapt with the Administration as their digital communication needs grow and change.
